Advent 2017

,

Advent allows us to make time for the Lord in our families, in our parish and in our town community.

The Parish Pastoral Council invites parishioners to engage with some of the Advent suggestions below:

Devotions & Ceremonies in our parish

Evening Prayer & Benediction:
Every Sunday of Advent in St. Anne’s Chapel at 6:00pm.

Morning Prayer of the Church:
10 minutes before 9:15 and 10:00 weekday Masses.

Service of Penance & Reconciliation:
Tuesday 19 December in St. Mary’s at 8:00pm.

Carol Service:
Sunday 17 December St. Mary’s at 4:00pm.

“One Parish One Book”

This year Navan parishioners are invited to deepen their understanding of their Catholic faith by reading together a book entitled Letters to a Young Catholic by George Weigel, who explores in a wonderfully accessible way, some of the aspects of our faith, and how faith can speak to us in a greater way.

Who can take part?
Anybody who would like to use the season of Advent as a time to spiritual prepare for Christmas is very welcome.

Where can I buy the book?
Letters to a Young Catholic is available in St Mary’s Parish Shop (Open Monday-Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm). It is available on-line and Kindle download.

How do I get involved?
After buying the book, you are invited to begin by reading Chapter 2, “Rome – The Scavi of St. Peter’s The Grittiness of Catholicism”.

On Tuesday, 28 November, at 8pm, our first meeting will be led by Fr Kevin in the Parish Rooms  behind St Mary’s Church. We will have a presentation on the chapter, a few questions to discuss and an opportunity to share your own thoughts about the chapter, finishing with prayer and light refreshments.

The Series continues on Tuesday, 5 November with an exploration by Fr Declan of Chapter 4, “The Formation Abbey: Mary and Discipleship” and Chapter 12 “Chartres Cathedral: what Beauty teaches us.”
