Bishop Michael celebrated Mass and the Anointing of the Sick for the sick, the housebound and nursing home residents around the parish as we marked #PatronDay in the Church of St Oliver Plunkett at Blackcastle.
His homily explored the courage of St Oliver in times of difficulty and the need to pray that Christ our Good Shepherd will be our guide especially during challenges of illness and family worries.
Fr Declan described the occasion as a joy for many in the parish especially the priests of the parish who have a chance to gather with all their First Friday calls.
He thanked all who had provided transport and assistance so that elderly neighbours and nursing home residents could participate in the annual Mass and Anointing. He also paid tribute to Fr Michael V. Daly for his pastoral care to the residents in Beaufort House.
At the end of Mass parishioners were afforded the opportunity of venerating a relic of St Oliver which was provided by the Knights of St Columbanus.
