Joy for all the Earth

Music for your Wedding Day

The priests of the parish are recommending “A Joy for all the Earth” to choirs, musicians and all couples who are preparing for their marriage in the coming months.

This hymn has been composed for the World Meeting of Families by Ephrem Feeley – a teacher in St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School.

The hymn setting finds its origin in the letter of St Paul to the Corinthians – a popular New Testament text chosen for marriages. Pope Francis has given it a rich “Francis-treatment” in paragraphs 90 – 119 of Amoris Laetitia.

We hope that Ephrem’s music will become part of our parish repertoire in the coming months and will become “a joy for all the parish family!” The music and vocal score can be ordered from the Parish shop.

Tara-Slane 2017

Tara is a reminder of our pagan past while Slane – according to tradition – is the site where St Patrick lit the first Paschal Fire in Ireland. The pilgrim walk is therefore a journey towards the Light of Christ, a symbol of our faith journey through life.

The journey is 15 miles (24km) long and winds along country roads through Skryne, Walterstown and Beauparc before crossing the Boyne at Slane.

Date and time:

The walk will depart from the Hill of Tara at 9:00am on Saturday 26 August 2017. Our estimated time of arrival at the Hill of Slane is 4:30p with conclusion of the pilgrimage by 5:00pm.

A completed registration form available in the sacristies and the parish office must be returned to the Parish Office not later than Thursday 24 August 2017.

Participants should be in good health and know that they are capable of walking the full journey unaided.

Proper walking footwear is essential. Keep an eye on the weather forecast to determine whether raingear or sunscreen will be required.

Participants should bring their own packed lunch. We will break for lunch at Beauparc Church.

Participants should also bring an adequate supply of water of the day. There are NO shops along the way until we reach the village of Slane.

We will celebrate Mass in Slane at 3:00pm approx.

Getting to and from:

Pilgrims might wish to “team up” by leaving one car at Slane and another at Tara. Alternatively, you might arrange for a family member or friend to leave you at Tara and to collect you in Slane.

More information from the sacristies, the parish office or from Fr Declan.
