Tara-Slane walk

This year’s Tara-Slane pilgrimage walk takes place on Saturday 31 August next. Many Irish families have walked up Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday, walked barefoot at St Patrick’s Purgatory on Lough Derg or have travelled along the Camino de Santiago to Compostela.

Our annual Tara-Slane pilgrimage walk allows us to connect with the faith of our nearest neighbours and parishes back to the time of St Patrick.

“Going on pilgrimage without a change of heart of heart brings little reward from God. For it is by practicing virtue and not be mere motion of the feet that we are brought to Heaven” (fifth century Book of Lismore)

Registration Forms are now available from the Sacristies or from the Parish Office.

In order to prepare our Pilgrim Passports, we ask you to return the completed form with your pilgrimage fee not later than 5:00pm on Thursday 29 August

Sincere thanks to all who took part in our prayerful Triduum. We are particularly grateful to Davey Lynch for his work at Our Lady’s altar, to Anne & John O’Hare for their decoration and to Frances for her flowers.

We are grateful to musicians and cantors who led the congregations in prayerful music: Michael, Tom, Gemma & David.

Some parishioners will also have noticed the great work done by Declan in the Rosary Garden. Maith sibh go léir!

Pope Video – August 2019

Let us pray that families, through their life of prayer and love, become ever more clearly “schools of true human development”.

Pope Francis – August 2019

What kind of world do we want to leave for the future?
Let us leave a world with families.
Let us care for our families, because they are true schools for the future, spaces of freedom, and centers of humanity.
And let us reserve a special place in our families for individual and communal prayer.
Let us pray that families, through their life of prayer and love, become ever more clearly “schools of true human development”.

Cemetery Sunday 2019

On the first Sunday in July, the annual devotions take place in St Mary’s Cemetery on the Boyne Road.

Last weekend saw the completion of the annual devotions in the cemeteries of the parish (St Mary’s, St Finian’s, Donaghmore, Dunmoe, Athlumney, Cannistown, the Cemetery at Our Lady’s Hospital for victims of poverty and families and also those buried in St Mary’s Church). The collection at the gates of St Mary’s Cemetery this year towards the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery raised €6,787. Thanks to all who contributed.

The priests of the parish express their gratitude to all who assisted in any way during the pilgrimages made by many families to the final resting places of their relations and neighbours: Navan Gardaí; Meath Civil Defence; Order of Malta; Bobby Farrelly (caretaker in St Mary’s cemetery) and Greg Smith (caretaker in St Finian’s cemetery); the local cemetery committees; Jim Dowdall, the Coldrick family and Anderson Construction Ltd for facilitating parking in their fields; the volunteers who stewarded traffic and parking; St Mary’s stewards; Michael McGoldrick for the amplification; Boyne Waste, parishioners and family members who led prayers; choir members, soloists and organist Niamh Gavin.

We share a few photos below of the stewards and Gardaí from St Mary’s Cemetery devotions.

Holy Week & Easter 2019

Palm Sunday Procession to St Mary’s

Good Friday Way of the Cross

The prayer above has become more relevant since the Easter Sunday attacks on Catholic parishioners in Sri Lanka. We reproduce the text below:

“As brothers and sisters in your family we are called to care for one another and to carry each others burdens. Open our hearts to our brothers and sisters who suffer because they voiced their faith in you, because they bear the name of Christian, because they dare to proclaim your name. May they know that across the miles, beyond the silence, we add our prayers to yours for them. Teach us how we can make a difference to their lives. Turn our hearts to the members of your family who cry to you for help.”
